Grades 1-8
Designed to inspire both learning and scholarship, the TNSYC Spelling Bee challenges students to master words drawn from this year’s book of study: The Gospel of Mark.
Participants are grouped by grade level:
• Junior Division: Grades 1–4
• Senior Division: Grades 5–8
Each congregation may enter up to 4 students per division.
It’s more than just spelling—it’s another commitment to know the Word.

Announcing the Word
The Pronouncer will announce the word for the speller to hear clearly.
Understanding the Word
If the speller requires clarification, they may request assistance before beginning to spell. The speller can:
- Request a Repeat – The Pronouncer can say the word up to two times.
- Request a Definition – The Pronouncer will provide the word’s definition.
- Request a Sentence – The Pronouncer will use the word in a sentence.
Once these requests have been addressed, the speller will begin spelling.
Spelling the Word
The speller will follow these steps:
- Say the Word – The speller first says the word aloud.
- Spell the Word – The speller then spells the word, letter by letter.
- Say the Word Again – Finally, the speller repeats the word to confirm completion.
Restart consistency
If the speller begins and chooses to restart, they must spell the word consistently with their initial letters, even through the restart.
The elimination process
• Incorrect Spelling: If a participant spells a word incorrectly, they are eliminated from the competition.
• Continuing the Competition: The next participant will receive a new word, and the competition will proceed under the same rules until only two participants remain.
Final Round Rules:
• When only two participants are left, special rules apply:
• If a speller misses a word, the other speller must:
• Correctly spell the misspelled word.
• Correctly spell an additional new word to be declared the winner.
• If both spellers miss the misspelled word, the cycle continues with a new word until one participant spells both the misspelled and the additional word correctly in sequence.

Answer Correctly!
If you can read,
you can play!
Kahoot! is a game-based learning platform which allows creators to create and display questions on the screen, and participants can answer the questions via a smartphone, tablet or computer. All Bible Trivia participants must have their own device to compete. *No devices will be supplied. *No earbuds or AirPods can be worn by participants during the competition.
It is the participants responsibility to download the Kahoot! app or be able to access a web browser so the Kahoot! website can be used.
Game Time!
When it is time for Kahoot! Bible Trivia, the rules will be explained again in person. The audience will be instructed to have all the youth participants to sit toward the front and parents and counselors in the back. A few volunteers and counselors will assist their groups to get the participants logged in.
Each participant will create a name so that their score will be tallied correctly. This format must be followed to register the participant. The name is comprised of their age category (Junior or Senior), the Region, and their first and last name initial.
For example: If Sally Johnson is in 5th grade from East Tennessee Region, this is how she would enter her name. JE-Sally J. This communicates Junior age category, East Region, Sally J.
Game Flow!
Kahoot! Bible Trivia will consist of a three rounds of questions.
The question will appear on the screen and after 4 sec, the answer choices will appear, and participants will have 10 seconds to answer the question
Sample Round
A sample round will be played to give familiarity with the game and to ensure all systems are functional. This also gives an opportunity to practice answering.
Round 1:Classic
This round will consist of 15 questions. Individual participants go head-to-head and compete for the top spot on the podium. The top 3 highest scorers for each region will advance to Round 2.

What is a Lit REEL?
A Lit Reel is a short, creative video—like a recorded skit, song, or other form of captured talent—that showcases your youth group’s creativity and talent. Each video should be 3–5 minutes long, reflecting this year’s theme and leaving a clear spiritual impact that inspires and uplifts others.
Theme: "Still Strong"
This year’s theme, “Still Strong” (Mark 11:22–24), reminds us that no matter what we’ve faced, our faith still stands firm. The challenge is to bring this truth to life—showing through creative storytelling that real strength isn’t just surviving, but believing, trusting, and standing strong in God.
Submission process
Lit Reels must be submitted through the Upload Center by the deadline, March 15. 2026. Unfortunately, late entries cannot be accepted, so please plan accordingly. All submissions will be reviewed. Any submission deemed inappropriate will not be eligible and not aired.
Judging Process
Each video is scored based on the following criteria:
- Overall Focus
- Visual Storytelling
- Audio
- Editing
- Originality
- Content Accuracy
- Props & Costumes
Scoring breakdown
•Panel of Judges – The panel will review each submission beforehand, tabulating scores based on the detailed rubric below. This will account for 60% of the final score.
•Audience Response – Live audience responses will be collected via Kahoot during the Lit Reels presentation, contributing the remaining 40% of the score.
Selection Process
